Bay Shore - Long Island NY - 7/9/2008
I find the quality of life here in Bay Shore becoming more and more difficult. Due to the lack of convenient public transportation our population is forced to clog the roads and highways to get anywhere. The cost of gasoline gets higher each day and everything else is climbing right along with it. Home heating fuel has gone through the roof! On the bright side, we do have some of the finest beaches in the world even though the season is too short. And the close proximity to the city gives great opportunities for theater, museums, etc. The taxes here are prohibitive especially for the young folks starting out and for seniors living on fixed incomes. Bring your money and know the area well! - 4/11/2006
I have lived in Bay Shore on and off in my 40 years. I only came back here because of family and needing a place to stay when my husband, son and I returned from out of the area.
Long Island was once the dream place of every resident of New York City. Now it's dirty, overcrowded, and really horrible. There are good points about Long Island but you must have money, and I mean A LOT of money to do well here and enjoy life.
Houses here range on average about $300,000 or more (plus high, high taxes) for nothing special. There are hardly any legal apartments. In fact, illegal apartments on Long Island are discouraged but many people have them in their homes to help pay the enormous mortgages.
BayShore has a mixed culture which has gone from mostly White people (still in some parts of the town) to many more African Americans and a large Latino community.
In parts of Bay Shore crime is terrible. If you move here, stay away from Downtown at
